ANNOUNCEMENT: West Point Agenda and Recommended Arrangements

To my fellow Descendants and of course, Marauders.
PLEASE read all the way through. You MUST respond to ME by May 1, 2017 @ firstname.lastname@example.org. I need to have a head count as hopefully I’ll have to book an additional bus/lunch seats!

Travel: Everyone has to get to West Point on their own via planes, trains or automobile. Stewart International Airport is closest.
Hotels: Everyone must book their own hotel. See the hotel links attached. Note: Everyone must find their own way from the airport to their hotel.

Itinerary for Friday, August 4th visit to West Point:
On Friday Aug. 4th everyone must find their own way to:
10:00 am Meet at West Point Visitors Center
Board Coach Bus
11:00 am Arrive at West Point Cemetery Chapel
Posting of Colors by West Point Honor Guard
Short speech by West Point personnel
Short walk to Generals Merrill & Stillwell graves (very close to each other)
Placing of Wreaths on graves by Marauders in attendance
Gun Salute by West Point Drill Team
Return to Chapel for retiring of Colors by West Point Honor Guard
12:00 noon Board coach bus
12:20 pm Arrive at Thayer Hotel Restaurant for lunch
Buffet Lunch consists of:
4 cold salad choices with 2 dressing choices
Deli Lunch meats to make sandwiches with cold cuts/cheese/lettuce/tomato/onion/sliced pickle/sandwich spread and assorted breads and rolls
Entre choices of:
Fish/Seafood, pasta, Chicken, Pork or Beef, Starch & Vegetables
Beverages including:Coffee, Reg & De-Caf/Assorted Teas
Soft and Alcoholic drinks are individual cash purchase.
1:30 pm Board Coach Bus for
1 and 1/2 hour guided tour of the West Point Military Academy
3:30 pm Returned to West Point Visitors Center
Everyone must find their own way back to their hotel/airport, etc.
The MMPD Association will pay for the Wreaths & the Marauders!
I do NOT expect a large turn out, actually I’m guessing no more than 50 participants since so many people must scatter for their own hotels and transportation needs (I’m already booked at “The INN on the HUDSON” about 9 miles outside of West Point and will be driving so I have no transportation issues.)

71st Annual Merrill’s Marauders Reunion

Plans are in the works so mark your calendars!
Changes to Reunion Format: This is not an organized reunion as has been done in the past. Forthcoming in the new year we will send out airport and hotel listings in the West Point area. It will be up to everyone individually to get there and make accommodations. We will take a head count of who will attend to make proper arrangements for the tour and set a luncheon afterwards that everyone will chip in to pay for. This is the new format. At the West Point meeting, if it goes well and everyone who attends agrees, we’ll pick a destination for 2018 and use the same format.
Hope to see many of you at West Point. Proud Descendant Bob Howland is working very hard to set this up and I am grateful to him.
