MERRILL’S MARAUDERS REUNION EVENT
ONE LAST TIME
AUGUST 27-30, 2018 NEW ORLEANS
The Merrill’s Marauders Proud Descendants are happy to announce one last reunion event. This is it, your last chance to get together. The National WWII Museum in New Orleans will be holding a Merrill’s Marauders special event highlighting the legacy and sacrifice of the 5307th in Burma during WWII. The museum will be holding these events on Tuesday August 28, 2018 and Wednesday August 29, 2018.
A symposium is planned at the National WWII museum with special guest, Gavin Mortimer, who wrote a book about the history of Merrill’s Marauders in 2013. In the fall of 2018 Gavin will publish a new book about the Chindits and Marauders heroic actions in Burma. Marauders will take part in this event. The WWII museum will also be recording interviews with Marauders.
A luncheon will take place at the museum on August 29, 2018 followed by live musical
entertainment presenting the songs and music popular during the war. There will be a tour of the Merrill’s Marauders exhibit at the museum. Admission to the WWII museum will be free to original Marauders and other admission fees will be reduced. A specific schedule of events will be sent out with these details at a later date.
Our headquarters for this gathering will be the Embassy Suites Hotel in New Orleans. This hotel is only three blocks from the National WWII Museum. Special rates have been secured and every room is a suite. This reunion will run from Monday August 27, 2018 through Thursday August 30, 2018. The special hotel rates will apply for three days before August 26 and three days after August 30, so you can take advantage of these rates and extend your stay in New Orleans. We have secured a hospitality room at the hotel for socializing and display of memorabilia.
Don’t miss out on this last chance to gather together to honor the legacy of the 5307th. A registration form will shortly be sent to MMPD members and original Marauders. Hope to see you all there!
